Flake constituents, UFW Foundation members visit his Phoenix office urging opposition to Jeff Sessions as U.S. attorney general

Phoenix—Constituents of U.S. Sen. Jeff Flakes and UFW Foundation members will visit the Arizona Republican’s Phoenix office at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11, urging him to vote against confirmation of Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) as U. S. attorney general.

Sessions’ confirmation hearing begins its second day Wednesday before the Senate Judiciary Committee. A review of his record reveals troubling revelations—and there are big holes in that record he has yet to reveal.

Sessions is one of the most anti-immigrant lawmakers in Congress. He has opposed every practical immigration reform plan during his 20 years representing Alabama. As Attorney General, he would have authority to implement his unpopular agenda, have oversight over the entire immigration judicial system, and be able to implement policies that could subject many more immigrants to deportation.

Sessions would also have to decide whether to continue a criminal contempt of court proceeding that could put former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio in jail for ignoring a 2011 federal judge’s injunction.

The UFW Foundation delegation will be presenting over 4,000 signatures asking Sen. Flake to get Senator Sessions to answer whether he will continue enforcing the Justice Department criminal contempt proceeding against former Sheriff Arpaio.

The Alabama Republican would also oversee the nation’s system of law enforcement. His opposition to bipartisan criminal justice reforms and his hard-line approach to drug-related offenses put him at odds with most Americans.

U.S. Army Sgt. Oscar Vazquez, a DREAMer educated in Arizona and a veteran who served in Afganistan, is among those testifying today. You can see the written testimony he submitted here:
