San Leandro’s “Season of Service, Period of Peace” Program

Students from San Leandro High School and John Muir Middle School in San Leandro worked throughout the Spring semester on the Season of Service, Period of Peace service-learning program.  Middle and high school students created, planned, and organized peace projects as a way of actively carrying on Cesar E. Chavez and Martin Luther King, Jr.’s belief in non-violence.  Over the past 5 years, San Leandro and it’s neighboring city, Oakland , have experienced numerous acts of violence against youth.  San Leandro students believe it is important for them to stand up and show their community that service is peace in action.  Check out San Leandro High School ’s website and the “Fast for Non-Violence” at and check out the media clips coverage from Channel 7 and the Oakland Tribune and Daily Review.
